  • Good app but could be better

    By JCSmooth305
So I’m American learning Cantonese (so my review and comment is only for that specific language) and I also use a program called drops (which I pay for) I wouldn’t mind using this app as well (paying for premium) because it is really great and “playing” with others around the world is a neat little experience and def adds a challenge, as sometimes u may face someone better than u in the language, worse, or on par etc. so why take away two stars? Well first off the game and playing people my ONLY issue with it (so far) is sometimes u get words u haven’t learned yet, so u r left randomly guessing and that takes away (IMO) from the learning aspect and challenging what u know vs someone else but BASED on vocabulary you BOTH at least have learned etc. (example I have only done the numbers lesson so far, so atm it’s all I know, when I’m playing the games with others, I feel that’s all that should come up, is numbers, until I obv expand my vocabulary. I get things like fire fighter and rooms when I haven’t learned them yet, so again, it’s like I’m just guessing rather than me just putting what I know against someone else who is learning or knows the same amount etc.) my 2nd issue is there should be some sort of option to remove the English romanization aids when u are learning languages that use characters such as pinyin or kanji etc it’s very very confusing and just adds to more things u have to learn and pay attention to. Using the program/app above I mentioned (drops) there is an option to take that off and it makes learning the language a lot easier (IMO) because then you just focus on the pronunciation of the words and how the actual characters should look and the order they should go in etc. if others need the English as an aid that’s fine no one is saying get rid of it, but there should be an OPTION to turn it off. I personally find it distracting and it takes away from you just focusing on the actual characters themselves and learning and mastering them the way they are intending to be read in their native language. Aside from those two things it’s a great app and I will use it as a companion to drops when and if they ever fix those two issues then I can def see this being my 2nd program along with drops I would willingly pay for a premium sub for. Thank you and keep up the improvements <3 also not a big deal and didn’t affect why I took stars away (those were mentioned above) but for whatever reasons I can’t upload a profile picture I can’t take one with my camera either (I am on an iPad mini 5th gen) it will take the picture but when I push set as picture it will never load. Same thing happens when I try to just upload a photo and not take a picture no matter what, nothing ever loads, and my profile picture always remains the blank default faceless picture so please fix this as well <3

There are no in app purchases as far as I can tell, because all I want to do is learn some Japanese while being broke. Thanks for a completely free app, as far as I can see, that allows people to learn the language of their dream.

  • RIP OFF!!!

    By eWargod
The app itself is fun when it works. However, if you get logged off and you have to sign back in, the app will not recognize the user account. I’ve had to create two subscribe twice now because of this issue. In the latest attempt, I’ve tried to log in using my Apple email and it gives me an error saying it doesn’t recognize the user– despite having purchased a year subscription. I tried to log in through the app maker’s website and it just hangs when I enter the credentials. I’ve sent two emails to the app maker and have not received a response yet. I even reached out to Apple and they are not offering to help either. The customer service for this app is ATROCIOUS. In general, this app is a RIP OFF!!!
