Need I say more?" - Sherri Nielsen “It’s a go! The latency is nonexistent compared to a Cintiq. I have gone through 4 tablets (this iPad Pro included) and this is the best drawing tablet experience I’ve had with Astropad. I bought a Cintiq and it broke out the box, so I switched to a Huion kamvas 221 gt and it didn’t last a year. I had to deal with their customer service for over 2 weeks to get a refund, and I still gotta ship the thing back. Astropad has everything you need in a drawing tablet. Hot keys and touch zoom/panning, it has everything. The Apple Pencil is super responsive with photoshop, I’ve yet to use it on other drawing programs but I’m sure it’ll work just as well. If you own an iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil and are looking to upgrade to a drawing tablet. Pick this up, it works amazingly

I loved this instantly - I draw can draw or trace on the iPad, and create line work in Adobe Illustrator.

  • Excellent Screen-Sharing App

Astropad does a fantastic job of sharing my Mac screen with my iPad Pro. While the 29.99 tag is steep for an app, it connects with nearly no fuss, and adjusts incoming resolution to ensure latency is nearly non-existent. Working in the same photoshop document as I had previously been using duet for, I experienced no slow down moving throughout the canvas. I also noticed my Mac has yet to experience the same overheating issue I was getting (I’d had to shut down a few times recently with duet to let it cool down). My only complaint so far is the same as I had with duet. When working in landscape the “full screen” view causes letterboxing. I lose nearly 20% of my vertical space. Thankfully this gives me an area to stash the menu glyph. 100% view does take up the entire screen, but it forces the user to sacrifice horizontal space in order to keep toolbars on screen. I purchased the app while considering their pro model, and while I do use a Pencil currently, I like knowing that this version will also be compatible with a 3rd party stylus. While the Pencil is very precise, I do miss the mouse keys from my Wacom pen. For artists considering moving from a screen less design tablet to the iPad, this version really caters to that 1 hand on the keyboard flow I was previously used to.

I got astropad a couple years ago and it was too laggy. I didn’t use it much. Now, it works a lot better and the lag time is acceptable. Keep improving!

The value of my time to develop this app on my own is worth the price not to mention the artistic value. Considering the size of their market the price fair. I use the old apple pen and the pressure works in photoshop and blender. If you’re on the fence but love photography or 3D, I recommend this app. I haven’t been spammed or experienced any issues if I do I’ll re-review.

When Astropad first came out, it was awesome and it worked really well. However, with the new Apple iPad Pro (3rd ed) that just came out and the new Apple Pencil (2nd version), Astropad no longer works and no one from the company seems to be addressing this (as to when a new version for Apple Pencil support will be released). Support from Astropad is rather non-existent it seems. I still prefer the first version of Astropad- “it just worked”. Hopefully a fix is coming soon as I cannot use Astropad until it is updated.

I was really hesitant to buy this app after seeing the mixed reviews, but I went ahead and made the purchase and I’m glad I did. I’ve been using my iPad Pro as a drawing tablet for a little over a month on ProCreate, but I really wanted to use it on the computer similar to a Cintiq. After getting my first MacBook and this app, I finally got the chance. The first thing I tried was the WiFi mode since I don’t like being tethered to my computer if I can help it. Sadly, the mode is essentially unusable for me. As soon as I open the app it immediately just opens and refreshes the screen over and over and cannot connect. Once I switched to the usb mode, there were no issues whatsoever. Contrary to some of the reviews, I’ve experienced 0 lag at all upon switching to the connected mode. As soon as I draw it registers it seamlessly. Even when running numerous apps in the background I have experienced no lag. Keep in mind, I am using a pretty strong Mac and iPad so my experiences may not be universal. I have also not contacted their customer service as I’ve had no issues, so I can’t vouch for how helpful or not they are.
