Millions of people use Signal every day for free and instantaneous communication anywhere in the world. Send and receive high-fidelity messages, participate in HD voice/video calls, and explore a growing set of new features that help you stay connected. Signal’s advanced privacy-preserving technology is always enabled, so you can focus on sharing the moments that matter with the people who matter to you. • Say anything – State-of-the-art end-to-end encryption (powered by the open source Signal Protocol™) keeps your conversations secure. Privacy isn’t an optional mode — it’s just the way that Signal works. Every message, every call, every time. • Go fast – Messages are delivered quickly and reliably, even on slow networks. Signal is optimized to operate in the most constrained environment possible. • Feel free – Signal is a completely independent 501c3 nonprofit. Development is supported by users like you. No advertisements. No trackers. No kidding. • Be yourself – You can use your existing phone number and address book to securely communicate with your friends. • Speak up – Whether they live across town or across the ocean, Signal’s enhanced audio and video quality will make your friends and family feel closer. • Whisper in the shadows – Switch to the dark theme if you refuse to see the light. • Sound familiar – Choose custom alerts for each contact, or disable noises completely. Simon & Garfunkel wrote a hit song about it in 1964, and you can experience the sound of silence whenever you want by choosing “None” as your notification ringtone. • Picture this – Use the built-in image editing features to sketch, crop, and flip your outgoing photos. There’s even a text tool so that you can add more words to the 1,000 that your picture is already worth. Generally I love signal very useful everyone is one it. Problem is I’ve become dependent on it and they can’t seem to get this app update right missing messages for days now!

I’ve been using Signal for years now and still prefer it to any other messaging app. The developers have fixed most of the small issues that I have had over the years and they continue to add new features.
  • Security and privacy

This app is excellent in terms of offering the best options and services other top-rating apps offer. The only reason why I cannot give 5 stars is that it keeps updating on a weekly basis! I do understand and respect the attempts the developers make to keep the end-to-end encryption and security updated and impenetrable, but is it really necessary to update the app for some mere stickers and unimportant stuff?! Anyone in need of these shenanigans can go find them in any other app! Initially I thought the updates are security-related but once you click on the “more” option, you realise it’s not that crucial. Then again, I have tried ignoring the redundant updates and well: the app’s functionality goes down. Please think about this before you want to download it.
  • Group chat, anyone

While I love the clarity and privacy settings Maybe the developers could consider group chats. I have verified all my contacts account and deleted my WhatsApp because it's gotten a lot more intrusive. With signal I shade it with who I really need to converse.
  • Usually excellent, but...

Your app quit working yesterday. I wonder if it was your latest update?

Best privacy app for messaging - also always updating - great new features and while keeping in mind our privacy concerns in a surveilled era
  • Stale

The app is continually updated with little meaningless features (eg pinning favorite messages at the top). The elephant in the room is that there is still no group calling or video.
  • Fairly good with one major flaw

Have been using signal for awhile and like it as a messaging tool. Really like the voice message feature, which works much better than the one in imessage. Really dislike that it tells everyone who has you in their contacts that you have signal, without you being able to opt out of the feature. On a larger level, it makes me worry about whether their privacy/security claims are really that true - if they’ll endanger privacy in something you can see, what’s really happening in the code? Tldr: recommend as a messaging app. Don’t recommend on at least one aspect of privacy.
