  • Too Political

Duolingo stay away from politics. You are a language learning facilitator not a political platform. If you are too desperate to show the world that you support diversity don’t do it by getting involved with the squad, which is 4 social media loud mouth politicians that half of the American people can’t stand them. There are other ways to show support of diversity, but not through politics and certainly not through the squad

This all is really helpful to me. I just started about two days ago and I have already know all the basics of Italian. I would definitely recommend this to people who want to travel, learn about their ancestry, or just for fun!

I loved Duolingo for so long… I have a streak over 340 days. About three weeks ago, when I was doing lessons, my XP wouldn’t be counted in full towards the leaderboard. Not sure why this is. Other than that, a great app.

Overall this app is easy to use. The gamification helps you stay motivated. My only suggestion would be to incorporate more speaking exercises and actual lessons. You more or less have to reverse engineer the grammatical rules based on what mistakes you make which is not easy given the fact that 90% of the time, no explanation is given for why your answer is wrong. Also, the ramp up challenges (timed exercises) don’t work for people with certain disabilities. I physically can’t type that fast and thus, am Not able to progress beyond the lowest levels. If you wish for Duolingo to be used in schools, you will have to address this to be in compliance with accessibility laws. 9/25/21 update- would you get rid of the auto-correct on the mobile app? Every time I try to fix something it reverses my corrections at least once. So if I make a typo, I have to fix it twice before it will “stick”. Also, with this latest update I’m only getting 1/2 the points I should be.

With the new iOS 15 update the app won’t let me start any lessons or go over old ones. Even after I tried updating the app and restarting my phone

I’ve been wanting learn some Finnish for years but not many language programs offer it. That was admittedly part of my decision to give duolingo a try, but I never thought it could be as engaging as this app makes it. I think the gamification approach is definitely right for some people, and it can help get people hooked on a language they always liked, but felt could be taught in a more rewarding way.

I love this app so much. I am using it to learn German, and I have learned so much. The only thing wrong with it is the hearts. You shouldn’t have to quit once you reach zero hearts, especially if you were in the middle of a lesson. But other than that, this app is amazing. Way better than on Android.
  • Very good language learning app!
