For beginners and experienced meditators alike, Waking Up is for anyone who understands that meditation should transform one's view of the world. WHY IS WAKING UP DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MEDITATION APPS? *Meditation is often taught as though it were an ancient version of an executive stress ball. But it’s more like the Large Hadron Collider. Waking Up users quickly understand that there are fundamental discoveries to be made in the laboratory of their own minds. *Waking Up guides you through a 50-day introductory course before unlocking access to an ongoing series of daily meditations. If you’re a novice, you need this. (And if you’re an experienced meditator, you probably do, too.) All meditations are created and led by Sam Harris. *Waking Up also contains a growing curriculum of short talks by Sam Harris on a wide variety of topics relevant for deepening your practice. *Waking Up never resorts to gimmicks or pseudoscience. The app contains only what you need to make fundamental insights into the nature of your mind. “I’ve been incredibly impressed with this app. Whether you want to sharpen your mind or experience more peace, this can help in dramatic fashion. The power of its progression is hard to overstate.” — Tim Ferriss Tim Ferriss is an early-stage investor in technology companies and the author of five #1 New York Times best-sellers, including The 4-Hour Workweek and Tools of Titans. He hosts the popular podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. ABOUT SAM HARRIS Sam Harris is the author of five New York Times best sellers, including Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion. His writing and public lectures cover a wide range of topics—neuroscience, meditation, moral philosophy, religion, rationality—but generally focus on how a growing understanding of ourselves and the world is changing our sense of how we should live. Sam received a degree in philosophy from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. He has practiced meditation for over 30 years and has studied with many Tibetan, Indian, Burmese, and Western meditation teachers, both in the United States and abroad. • You only get limited free content

Good topics listed! However, I was disappointed to see that very few meditations are free. I may delete this app and use the ones that are more generous with free content.

  • Good People Great App

    By Griff from Pittsburgh
Shout out to Karl and Sam and everyone over there at the App team. Sam talks about a lot of concepts about how to be a positive owner in our capitalist world, especially the Internet environment where everything should be free, I can tell you from personal experience he stands by the things he says. Thank you guys for introducing me to a legitimate way to add mediation to my life.
  • Amazing

  • Steady as she goes

Such a wonderful app. I have followed Sam Harris for a while and when the podcast began I thought, “why not”. It has been the most interesting journey of my life. I’ve missed a day or two in the past five months but daily meditation helps to keep a steady path for me. Thanks Sam.
  • Highly Recommend

I could not find a meditation app to stick with until I found Waking Up. Now, I meditate every day because the app makes it so easy and worthwhile. If you are learning how to meditate like me, this app is the best way to do it.
  • Extremely helpful

    By Brad979899
I have really severe ocd and agoraphobia and this has helped me cope and I’m extremely thankful. Also Sam Harris himself with his podcast has been amazing and the first person to talk about politics that I agree with. Love it all.
  • Got me into meditation.

    By JnyX
I’ve been a fan of Sam Harris for a few years. Every so often he’d talk about the benefits of meditation. I’d go, yeah, I should try that sometime. I had been supporting the podcast for awhile so got access to the app because of that, so gave it a try. The app makes it very quick and easy to start a practice. The meditations are about 10 minutes long. I find I fit it in on most days. Plus, I like how Sam presents the material. No weird energy talk or chakras. Just straightforward mindfulness.
  • Great introduction to meditation!

  • The Thinking Person’s Meditation App

    By Brad Pitt Falcon
Built like a carefully constructed college course, each day of meditation builds on the one before it. Sam Harris injects little hints of wisdom and high-level ideas into the middle of each meditation session, elaborating on them in accompanying audio lessons elsewhere in the app ranging from 3 min. to 30 min. I’m nine days into the course and have found immense value in the journey so far. For me, this app goes further than other meditation apps I’ve tried, presenting profound, yet practical ideas that are slowly but surely blowing my mind. Focus on the breath.
